What to See This Weekend? (09/05)
Bangkok Dangerous
Dir: Oxide Pang Chun & Danny Pang
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Charlie Yeung, Shahkrit Yamnarm
Bangkok Dangerous will take tops at the box office this week, which isn’t saying much when you look at the low quality garbage that is taking home the money in the last two weeks (current top ten at the bottom of the page). This looks as though it is following closely in the tradition of Cage’s Lord of War, and may or may not be as clever as that film (which was marginally clever). Cage is sporting the long hair again, which is something, that usually means he wants to be taken seriously.
Everybody Wants to be an Italian [limited]
Dir: Jason Todd Ipson
Stars: Jay Jablonski, Cerina Vincent, John Kapelos
Could this be the film that revitalizes the long dead romantic comedy? Probably not.
PICK OF THE WEEK:
Mister Foe [limited]
Directed by: David Mackenzie
Starring: Jamie Bell, Ciaran Hinds
This looks like it could be one of the best independent comedies of the summer. Jaimie Bell is a consistent actor, and the buzz from the festival circuit has been very positive.
Ping Pong Playa [limited]
Directed by: Jessica Yu
Starring: Jimmy Tsai, Andrew Vo
Didn’t this already fail once as a movie idea with Balls of Fury? Then weren’t there about four other ping pong comedies that came out trying to milk that one?
Current Top Ten:
1. Tropic Thunder
2. Babylon A.D.
3. The Dark Knight
4. The House Bunny
5. Traitor
6. Death Race
7. Disaster Movie
8. Mama Mia!
9. Pineapple Express
10. Vicky Christina Barcelona

I am pulling for Mr.Foe. Feels like a good one for the season.
